Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and a commentator working as a commentator for NBC News in Washington D.C., is a television anchor. She earned an undergraduate degree in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania after growing up in New York City. Mitchell began her career with KYW Radio and TV as a Philadelphia reporter in the year 1967. In 1976 she became a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). After two years, she was hired by NBC News as a Washington reporter. The year 1981 saw her begin reporting on the White House and became chief Congress correspondent in 1988. She was made the Chief White House correspondent in 1992. and the chief correspondent for foreign affairs at NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist for the TV show Meet the Press and also was the host for the program. Mitchell was on a panel for the 1988 presidential debates featuring George Bush (then president) as well as Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married with Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded in 2005 her Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in the John F. Kennedy School of Government. Also in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA), honored Mitchell for her contribution in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell started covering for the White House in 1981-1988, both during Ronald Reagan's presidency. Mitchell covered a wide range of important stories including the Iran-Contra scandal as well as budget tax reforms as well as arms control. She traveled with Ronald Reagan on numerous occasions to summits and debate topics including that of the Iran Contra controversy.
